Taxpayers to Mayor Daley: It’s the Spending, Richie
CHICAGO—The head of Illinois’ largest taxpayer organization today slammed Chicago Mayor Richard M. “Richie” Daley for shifting blame for the city’s huge property tax increases to bureaucrat James Houlihan, the Cook County Assessor. Jim Tobin, president of National Taxpayers United of Illinois (NTUI) accused Daley of “shameless tax-raising and blame-shifting.”
Eighth Annual “Top 100 Illinois Government Pensions” Published – Expert Calls Illinois Pension Systems “Unsustainable”
CHICAGO—3,597 retired Illinois government employees received over $100,000 in pension benefits for fiscal year 2009, which ended June 30, according to pension researcher, Bill Zettler. This was the 8th annual report by Zettler on the top 100 government pension recipients in Illinois.
