CHICAGO—The president of Illinois’ largest taxpayer organization today urged members of the Illinois State Senate to oppose SJRCA 92, a proposed amendment to the Illinois Constitution that would convert the state personal and corporate income taxes from their current flat-tax rate to a graduated tax rate.
“This proposed amendment to the Illinois Constitution would stifle Illinois’ economy,” said Jim Tobin, President of National Taxpayers United of Illinois (NTUI). “It would punish the state’s most productive citizens and force small businesses to move to states with lower corporate income taxes.”
“The purpose of this proposed amendment is to funnel more taxpayer dollars into the lavish pension benefits and salaries for state employees and government school employees and consultants.”
“I urge members of the State Senate to vote “No” on SJRCA 92.

  1. Would this raise our taxes or just allow for there to be a graduated income rate?

  2. SJRCA 92 will allow the special interests to more easily raise our personal and corporate income taxes via class warfare. The current uniform rates of 3 (on personal income ) and 7.3 percent (on corporate income) protect us from class warfare and make it tougher for them to increase the income tax for everybody.
